The mission of LIR is to keep academic librarians informed about technological developments that affect their practice.\u00a0 This year, the LIR Annual Seminar will investigate the impact of cybersecurity attacks on libraries; we will consider the implications for business recovery and business continuity, as well as other relevant security topics.\u00a0 We will hear from academic librarians and other experts working in this area.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The seminar will include security overviews, case studies and a panel discussion.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tony Clarke is VP of IT Operations and Information Security at Marken who provide flexible supply chain solutions for the clinical trial landscape. He started his career in electronics and transitioned into Information Technology where he began to focus in cybersecurity. Tony worked in consultancy for several years providing IT services and building environments for banking, telecoms, government, UN and EU agencies. Over the last 20 years, Tony has provided IT & security services to several organisations across a wide variety of industries before specialising in healthcare.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He holds a M.Sc. in Security and Forensic computing and an M.Sc. in Artificial Intelligence, a post-graduate certificate & M.Sc. in Artificial Intelligence, drug development and numerous IT, cybersecurity, privacy and artificial intelligence qualifications.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

John<\/span> Cox is University Librarian at the University of Galway. He has a particular interest in digital libraries, open scholarship and scholarly communications. Projects led include planning for a library building transformation at NUI Galway, digitisation of the Abbey and Gate Theatre archives, and Irish consortium negotiations with publishers. Title: The Cyberattack Experience at University of Galway, 2021-???? <\/span>Abstract: John Cox, University Librarian at the University of Galway, will describe Library\u2019s experience of the cyberattack experienced by the institution at the end of September 2021, including its ongoing implications. Richard Dunne is the CISO at TU Dublin. He joined the company in 2000 and moved through several positions before being appointed to his current role in 2022.\u00a0 He has been responsible for the delivery of many strategic cyber projects for TU Dublin including \u201cMFA for all\u201d, Cloud Service Provider Assessment Group and Working with many partners to improve the \u200bcyber-Posture of the university.\u00a0 He leads in the development\/adoption and enforcement of Information Security policies, procedures, and standards.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

Alan Pike is the IT Security Officer for TU Dublin. He has been working in TU Dublin since 2007 as an IT professional where he has been involved with a number of large projects, including the migration from G-Suite to Office 365, before moving into his new role in November 2020. <\/span><\/p>\n

In his new role as IT Security officer, he has been involved in the design and implementation of MFA for all users and is currently leading the project to implement a single EDR solution across the University. <\/span><\/p>\n

Alan holds an MSc in Computing in the area of Security and Forensics which was awarded in 2019.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

TU Dublin were the victims of a ransomware attack in April 2021, which affected the Tallaght Campus. Alan will be discussing the security measures that have been implemented since this attack to improve the security posture of the University.<\/span><\/p>\n

Niamh Walker-Headon is the Library Resources Manager for Digital Knowledge Services at Health Library Ireland. She took over this role just after the cyberattack on the HSE happened in May 2021. Prior to that she has been the Library Resources Manager for Procurement in Health Library Ireland, and before that spent 18 years as the systems librarian in Tu Dublin, Tallaght Campus [previously IT Tallaght]. <\/span><\/p>\n

Niamh has presented at a previous LIR Seminar in 2014 on the topic of Open Source and Libraries and has published in the area of library web site design and implementing open source solutions for libraries. Most recently Niamh presented at the IFLA Heath and Biosciences Section satellite meeting on “The role of the institutional repository in delivering COVID-19 evidence summaries”. Currently Niamh is implementing Aspen Discovery while redesigning the entire LibApps suite for Health Library Ireland.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

Niamh will talk about the impact of the cyberattack on the HSE and Health Library Ireland, and illustrate how SaaS for the most part saved the day. These services include library systems and non-library systems for example the SaaS hosted Koha system and SLACK communications. In addition ongoing issues will be outlined.<\/span><\/p>\n
