Workshop: Troubleshooting and monitoring library web sites & e-resources

This workshop took place at Cork Institute of Technology  (Lab IT.1.1 Berkeley Center, Bishopstown Campus) on Wednesday the 18th of January 2017, 11:30am - 1:15pm.

This workshop was for library staff involved in the delivery of electronic content to end-users, including on-campus library web applications and e-resources.

Modern web-browsers have made it easier to troubleshoot web-site issues. Library web-sites  and e-resources hosted by publishers should render content correctly, whether delivered by the library proxy or direct to the users browser. This workshop helped equip systems librarians and e-resrouces Librarians with the skills to diagnose web site issues which can then be reported to suppliers or resolved on-campus.

The workshop covered the following:

• HTTP Overview (HTTP Response codes/Header & Body content)
• Cookie handling
• Page elements (CSS/JS/IMG/
• Proxied content.
• JavaScript (client rendering and server requests)
• Emulating mobile devices and off-campus users.
• Monitoring web-resources
